The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). It began in 1955 as a way of attracting visitors to Las Vegas during the off-peak seasons. The LVCC is funded by a room tax on all Clark County hotel and motel guests which keeps from putting a burden on local residents. Other revenue comes from leasing space to exhibitors in the convention center. The LVCVA promotes many conventions, Vegas tourism, and many special events to attract visitors and conventioneers from around the world.
In 2006, the LVCVA began a five-year multi-million dollar reconstruction project to accommodate the growing influx of visitors. Presently, the Las Vegas Convention Center is a 3.2 million square feet facility. It has over two million square feet of convention space plus 241,000 square feet for 144 meeting rooms and seating capacity up to 2,500 people. The lobby and restriction area encompass 225,000 square feet and link to the exhibit halls and meeting centers together. It is a multipurpose center where numerous events can go on simultaneously.
The Las Vegas Convention Center is accessible to both visitors and exhibitors who stay in any of the 100,000 plus hotel rooms in Las Vegas. Because of it's proximity to the Strip, guests from hotels like the Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, or even Paris can easily take a taxi or shuttle bus to the convention center.
The services at the convention center include two restaurants, 18 concession stands, a full-service kitchen as well as two Starbucks coffee shops. A complete line of business services is also available in the convention center. Available are audio/video equipment rental, computer and copier rental, faxing, internet and wireless services, office supplies, banners, wrapping and shipping for boxes under 150 lbs., personnel for hire and much more.
For a small fee, you can leave up to three traveling bags at the baggage claim in the convention center if you are flying on Southwest, United or Ted Airlines. When it's time to have your next convention, whether it's large or small, have it at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
